Soma 12.01.2025 - 18.04.2026

It's been a month since my bred by Soma (Kidekukan Nakkikeitto) was euthanized because of suspected idiopathic epilepsy. He didn't get a 100% sure diagnosis, but according to his vet it was 95% surely idiopathic epilepsy because his symptoms were so similar.
The owner of Soma considered trying medicine, but the vet thought it was better for Soma to euthanize him. His seizures were so severe and pretty long so mild medicine wasn't the best option and because he was an active sled dog, an actual epilepsy medicine wasn't the answer too because it causes ataxia and fatigue. And because Soma got seizures after he was apart from his pack and even after positive stress, life could have been a misery for both Soma and his owner. So euthanasia was the best option for both Soma and his owner and he was euthanized after he got two seizures on the same day. First seizure he got one month earlier.
Soma's owner took a blood sample for Hannes Lohi epilepsy research. I'm going to take samples from my puppies when we go to the vet. I've already taken samples from their dam and I'm going to update her information about her offspring epilepsy after she has been examined. I wish so badly that we get a DNA test for epilepsy as soon as possible. I'm glad that Soma's owner took samples, even tho the situation was horrible.
Thank you Soma for being in my life, and I'm sorry I couldn't help you. And thanks to the owner for giving this special boy a good, but short life. And sorry for your loss.
